Trending: Bleach Dye DIY

If you’ve been on any form of social media recently, I’m sure you’ve seen this trend. Everyone, and I mean eVeRyOnE, is bleach dyeing their clothing--even celebrities. Honestly I am obsessed with this trend, and you can call me basic if you want, but it’s cool and you know it. You at least have to admit that.

Here is the play by play of how I transformed my set from boring and plain to chic, fab, and ~trendy.~

Step 1:

If you just bought new clothing items for this, throw them in the washing machine (you do not need detergent). This is a CRUCIAL step because some brands use a protectant that will stop the bleach from doing shiz to your clothes.

*Disclaimer, the first time I tried to bleach dye my clothing, I didn’t do this step because I thought it was stupid. The joke was on me, cause the bleach did absolutely zero to my clothes.

Step 2:

Do NOT dry your clothing. Take the damp clothes and spin them into a circle-ish form by grabbing the item in the middle and spinning. I am struggling to explain this step but if you have tie-dyed before you know what I mean. If you haven’t, I apologize for my poor explanation.

Step 3:

Rubber band your clothing. You can space the rubber bands as far or as close as you want, I did approximately two inches a part. For smaller items, like my shorts, I put the rubber bands on diagonally to form a pizza type looking thing. (Check out my pictures for a better visual on this)

Step 4:

Use some kind of spray bottle, or squirt bottle, to put the bleach all over your clothing. I used a fair amount of bleach, about 9 ounces. (Pls don’t tell my mom)

Step 5:

Let your clothes soak up the bleach. I recommend putting your clothes in the sun.  It helps the bleach soak in faster and speeds up the process.

Step 6:

Check on your clothes often, and when it’s bleached to the desired amount rinse it in warm water.

Step 7:

Throw in the washing machine like you would with any other clothes, and you’re good to go!
