Minimal Summer Pieces
Somehow, I came home from school in March with approximately DOUBLE the amount of bags I arrived with in August—all packed to the absolute brim with clothes that I do not wear. Following an intense (BRUTAL) closet clean-out, I set myself a goal. Whereas spring cleaning might mean room for new pieces for some, I became dedicated to creating a more minimalist, streamlined wardrobe. While I have caved from my original idea of an uber minimalist 20-piece capsule wardrobe (come on, Izzy, that was impossible), I have begun to strategically purchase clothes that I know I can wear again next summer. Here are a few of my minimalist summer faves:
1. Tennis Skirts
I must admit, I have no idea how to actually play tennis. But the tennis skirt is a comfy summer MUST-HAVE. I just bought this one from Nike and have worn it most days—easy to throw on with sneakers and a t-shirt or tank top.
2. Slides
Even though I’m mainly staying at home these days, I found myself putting on sneakers to run errands or take my coveted jaunt to the Starbucks drive-through—which is FAR too much effort. So, I invested in these black AllSaints slides that I am obsessed with. They’re casual enough to throw on with leggings but cool enough for all of your full-glam grocery store runs.
3. Gym Shorts
I am simultaneously pushing the shorts I wear every day and my favorite local boutique, Interwoven in Asbury Park, NJ. Sadly, these shorts are sold out BUT take this as a sign that you need mid-length black gym shorts in your life—and don’t forget to follow Interwoven on Instagram (@interwovenap).
4. Classic White Button Down
On the rare occasion that I’m not wearing comfy shorts and a t-shirt, I always throw on a white button down with jeans. I bought this Madewell oversized one on sale as a quarantine anxiety purchase—was absolutely worth it.
5. Rectangular Sunglasses
I wanted a trendy pair of cheap sunglasses to wear to the beach this summer and found these on Free People. So cute. I wear them every day and I’m obsessed with the shape.
HAPPY MINIMALIST SUMMER.
