Group Costumes That Are Not Crazy Basic
With Halloween just around the corner, you might feel that time is running out to get a costume that’s cute for your group without being incredibly basic. So, grab your girls & your credit card and go shopping because these looks are scary cute!
The Girls from Jersey Shore:
If you really want to bring the Jersey culture to Boston, dressing as the icons from the Jersey Shore is definitely a way to do so. Snooki, JWoww, Sammi Sweetheart, Deena, and Angelina definitely know how to work Halloween.
To channel your inner Snooki, a tight leopard print mini dress is the way to go, followed by a pair of fuzzy boots. And of course, you are going to need a pouf in your hair and a whole lotta eye makeup to get Snooki’s amazing smoky eye.
For JWoww and Sammi Sweetheart, grab your smallest mini dress and biggest hoops alongside the highest pair of heels you have. And of course, some light pink lip gloss that’ll make you shine.
Deena’s look will require a neon mini dress, ideally in electric blue or neon green. If you really want that early season of Jersey Shore energy, choose a chunky belt and lots and lots of bracelets.
Last but not least, Angelina’s look requires a fitted black top, a leather mini skirt, and a deep side part (yes, you heard me right). To commit to the bit, bring in a black trash bag to pay homage to her original entrance.

The Barbie Discontinued Dolls:
There was nothing quite like the Summer of 2023 when Barbie came out. While some people recreate Margot Robbie’s iconic pink cowgirl outfit from the movie or the adorable yellow dress she wears at the end of the film, it would definitely be original to dress up as some of the more niche characters on the silver screen.
This costume is especially great if you have guy friends who can serve as “Sugar Daddy Ken” or “Earring Magic Ken.” Released in 2009, a Ken doll decked out in floral swim trunks with a white dog named Sugar was debuted to the public but discontinued for the mature themes. So, grab a floral bathing suit and a stuffed white dog, and you are all set!
Meanwhile, Earring Magic Ken only needs a lavender mesh shirt and a purple vest to really capture his outfit. Oh, and of course, a singular earring for that classic male ‘90s look.
Now, the “Video Girl” doll is quite unique. To make this look especially interesting, grab one of your old ipods and stick it to the back of your top with fashion tape. Next, you’ll need a hot pink long sleeve and zebra print vest (which is so trendy right now it’s kind of perfect), and your look is complete!
And who can forget “Weird Barbie?” Played by the fabulous Kate McKinnon, grab a funky pink dress that looks beyond ill-fitting and a pair of green boots. You’ll also want some crazy makeup smeared on your face to symbolize the marker residue of children who have drawn on you. To really get into character, try to ensure that whoever dresses as this Barbie can do the splits.

The “Wannabe” Spice Girls Video Looks:
Growing up, I was infatuated with the Spice Girls video, “Wannabe,” particularly because of all the amazing outfits they wore. This is a perfect last minute costume to wear with your group of five, especially because so many pieces of clothing can easily be ordered online or are things you likely already have in your closet.
To achieve Sporty’s look, you’ll need a pair of dark blue track pants, an orange sports bra, and some white sneakers. For that extra sporty touch, you’ll want a killer high pony.
For Ginger’s iconic and bold looks, a dress with the British flag is always a good look. For a little extra spice (see what I did there), go with a white go-go boot to really elevate your costume.
To really do Scary’s look justice, a neon green tank top and some funky patterned pants are perfect. However, the hair is the key element here. You can rock some amazing space buns with some green string wrapped around them tightly, or a natural curly hairdo, or combine both of them together!
For Posh, you really do not need much at all, as her beauty speaks for itself. You can’t go wrong with a little black dress, a choker, and some black heels. For hair and makeup, a dark lip and sleek, straight hair complete this look.
Baby’s look is a personal favorite in all-pink. However, it’s not too tricky to achieve her look. Grab a pink mini dress, some white socks, and white sneakers. Don’t forget, this costume is not complete without some pigtails in your hair!

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off:
An oldie but a goodie, this costume is perfect for a trio. In the movie, Ferris wears a patterned sweater vest with slacks and a cream leather jacket. To make this look a little more feminine, swap out the slacks with a pair of cream or grey shorts paired nicely with your leather jacket.
Sloan’s outfit is timeless, as she pairs an adorable white fringe jacket with a classic white long sleeve underneath. For bottoms, grab a grey mini skirt and a black belt. Again, things you may very well already have in your closet!
Cameron’s outfit is a little more unique, but nonetheless, my favorite. He wears a Detroit Red Wings jersey, with #9 Howe on the back. No, you do not need a time machine to get you back to the ‘80s for this look, just a shopping trip. Feel free to swap out Cameron’s khaki pants with a cute khaki skirt and some plain sneakers. Just like that, you have the most amazing trio costume around!

The Coyote Ugly Bartender Girls:
I would be lying if I said these outfits were not on my mind 24/7, because growing up, these were the original cool girls. Not to mention, these costumes are super easy to throw together because these pieces are so trendy. You might not be able to hit all the moves in “Devil Went Down to Georgia,” but you can certainly look the part! You’ll need a fitted crop top, some low-rise leather pants, or some denim shorts. We definitely cannot forget the accessories. You’ll need a chunky belt and cowboy boots!
What makes this costume unique is that each person can have their own set of characteristics – like lace, leather, denim, or red and black accents – while still keeping the group look coordinated. Don’t forget to add some volume to your hair and a smoky eye for that extra spunk.
