Throw on a Graphic Tee

Let’s explore the popularity surrounding graphic tees for a second because quite frankly, I see them on everyone in every platform thinkable. Pinterest. Instagram. Twitter. Even the fashion accounts of Tik Tok. Why are graphic tees a fashion staple now? 

Well, the name kind of gives away half the answer. These shirts are graphic, visually appealing, even when you’re wearing something plain. They stick out with the different colors and images plastered on them, making each shirt tell a unique story. These images can range from your favorite superheroes, to shapes, to fonts, and aesthetics.   

Whatever the outcome, graphic tees make for a big statement piece in your wardrobe. 

Now, I’m not talking about the tacky graphic tees that were popularized in the 2015-2017 era. You know the ones I’m talking about. The ones with cheesy lines like, “I need coffee in my life” in an odd font with a single image of a coffee mug on the bottom. I’m talking about the ones currently making buzz on social media. The ones that seem to fit any vibe you’re trying to go for, effortlessly at that. 

I started buying graphic tees for many reasons, but the main one is because I’m lazy. Even though being lazy can be a bad thing in certain aspects, you don't have to look lazy too.  I saw how throwing on a graphic tee meant that all the other articles of clothing, like my choice of pants or shoes, did not have to be a hassle to try and pair up. Why? It’s because the graphic tee did all the work for me. These shirts make it seem like I tried hard, when in reality, I didn’t. 

Now that I went over the context behind why everyone, including myself, are here for the graphic tee popularity.  Let’s talk about how these shirts are so versatile and accessible.  Say you want to go for a casual look. Maybe you want to wear jeans, but you’re not exactly sure what top to wear, which then affects which shoes and accessories you choose. Wear an oversized graphic tee shirt. Why oversized? To get to the jist of it, it gives your outfit contrast. If you’re wearing a pair of jeans that are slimmer, a baggier shirt will elevate your outfit just like that. And like I mentioned earlier, with graphic tees having different colors and designs, you can then pair your accessories and footwear for a casual vibe. See how graphic tees are lifesavers? 

What if your style is more girly? Maybe you’re an adamant skirt-wearer. No problem. Just wear a tighter graphic tee, a cute purse, and you’re all set. The vibe is there, and the graphic tee makes any outfit a winner. 

What I’m trying to say is, you can dress your graphic tees up or down!  Experiment with contrast, textures, and colors.  At the end of the day, if what you’re wearing is making you feel confident, then that’s all that matters. 

If you’re STILL not convinced that graphic tees are the elite clothing choice, let’s talk about price points. As a broke college student, I refuse to spend a lot of money on clothes when I don’t have to. Graphic tees can be really cheap.  Online stores like ROMWE and BOOHOO sell them in the $5 to $7 range. Otherwise, there are a lot of thrift stores that sell them.  Sift through the aisles (I recommend the men’s section) for an affordable unique look. 

Now that you’re convinced, get out there and buy some graphic tees. Style them up or down, and they’ll always work in your favor!
