Styling Denim

We all have that pair of jeans that makes us feel 100% confident. They’re the perfect fit, and you can dress them up or down. Along with my favorite pair of jeans, I definitely have my fair share of denim just sitting in my closet. The problem is that I never knew how to style denim into an outfit that can be both chic and comfortable. The amazing thing about denim, though, is that it is so versatile. Not only can you style it with some heels and a leather jacket for a night out but you can also pair a comfy denim jacket with some leggings for a more relaxed and comfortable look.

Step 1: Find your denim

Good news… you can find denim anywhere, and it can be so affordable! Looking for a more vintage look? Go thrifting with some friends! You would be surprised how many amazing jeans you can find at thrift stores or second-hand shops. The great thing about thrifting jeans is that what you see doesn’t have to be what you get… get creative! There are so many DIYs that you can do like bleaching your denim or adding patches that can spice up any pair of jeans.

Some other places I like to shop for denim are American Eagle, Madewell, and Aritzia but my favorite has to be Revice Denim. They run a bit small but their jeans are sure to be a unique foundation for any denim outfit.

But don’t forget about your closet, ladies! You would be surprised how much you have to work with right at home. Getting some jewels and patches or adding some rips to old jeans can be the perfect revamp that the denim in your closet needs!

Step 2: Pick your top

I always say that when it comes to styling a casual denim outfit, you want to stay with more neutral-toned tops. I love the high-waisted jeans and crop top look, but an oversized white sweater with a jean skirt also is sure to create the cutest outfit.

But don’t be afraid to be bold as well! I recently purchased a pink blazer from Missguided and pair it with a light wash jean, white top, and some heels and you have yourself a professional and chic denim outfit. If your jeans have patches or any detail, pair it with a vintage, thrifted tee or an oversized college sweatshirt (BC, of course) for a more casual look.

Step 3: Layer it up

Time for my favorite part… layering! Pairing your outfits with a blazer or jacket can take your look to a new level. Some layered pieces I love are leather and jean jackets. An outfit I’ve been loving is my favorite pair of Aritzia distressed jeans, a nude top, and a leather jacket with a low ponytail and gold jewelry.

Step 4: Time to Accessorize!

Jewelry time! Because denim includes such versatile pieces, there is so much you can do with your jewelry. If your outfit is more simple but chic, I recommend stacked necklaces with small hoops. Don’t count statement necklaces out, though! Adding a statement necklace can amp your look up from daytime to dinner, and it can include a pop of color for some fun in your outfit. Pair your outfit with some heels, and you’re good to go!
