Fall 2023 Trends

As always fashion is cyclical and so coming into Fall 2023 there was a whole host of new trends for people to buy into. Coming from the European Summer looks, people are putting away their linens and silks to trade in for some warmer fabrics and colors, and while the fall has not yet been named it will for sure be no less fashion forward as the European summer we are leaving. In this article I’m going to be talking about the trends that have surfaced that I feel are some of the best and brightest of the season. At the end of this article, I will include outfit inspo including all of the trends I have listed!

1. Red

Had to start off strong with the trend I am absolutely in love with. The color of the fall season is red whether it be a bright strawberry red, or a deep cherry red, it is everywhere this season. From boots, to leather jackets, to cowboy boots and scarves it is the best of the best accent color for the fall. When people are falling back into their capsule wardrobes this is the perfect color to add a little dimension and intrigue to a simple outfit.

2. Biker Boot

Somewhere between June and August, everyone decided to become motorcycle-esque without owning a motorcycle. The emergence of the biker boot was something I didn’t expect, but loved to see styled. Though it became a trend over the summer I am so excited to see how the girlies are gonna be styling it come fall: oversized jeans, or with a mini skirt, the possibilities are endless.

3. Ballet Flat

I think a great soft title for the fall 2023 would be “Soft Girl Fall '', and this trend would be the reason why. Gone are the days of a cringey ballet flat with a skinny, and here are the days of the gorgeous sleek, and french like ballet flat. It’s a cute and casual shoe, in between a clog and a loafer; a perfect balance to a casual daytime look, and with so many cute colors means no end to the options for everyone.

4. Scarfs

Lenny Kravitz himself dubbed this trend a must for the fall, and so I had to add it. Lenny Kravitz is known for including fun, and rather large accessories to his outfits so it is no surprise that he enjoys a big scarf for the fall/winter.

While Lenny Kravitz believes more in a bigger fuzzier scarf, I believe that for the fall the perfect scarf is something more akin to Disney Channel in early 2000s, a thinner more color scarf is my preference for this fall. I think because I tend to go for neutrals in the fall for my main outfit I love any accessories that will keep colors a part of my outfit.

5. Big Colored Glasses

This trend is one of the greatest I’ve seen simply because elementary school Angie who was fighting invisible bullies, and going to school practically blind because she hated her glasses frames now has so many options to choose from when it comes to cute, and dare I say cunty frames. The large framed glasses add such dimension to any and every outfit, allowing personality to shine even if the outfit falls a little flat.

6. Rory Gilmore-esque Sweaters

Where would fall be with the Gilmore Girls….. It wouldn’t even be possible. As soon as I feel a brisk chill in the wind, the sweaters come on, the lights turn down, and Rory and Loreli are walking into Luke’s diner. The Rory Gilmore-esque sweater is the perfect blend of a slouchy boyfriend style sweater that gives a crisp Connecticut prep look, while still looking fashionable and comfy.  Paired with the perfect pair of jeans or a pleated mini skirt will never not be a look.

7. Mini Skirt + Colored Tights

Mini skirts should be worn all year round.

That’s a fact, argue with your mother.

Along with a cutesy little mini skirt, the perfect way to style it for fall is a solid colored stocking. I think that this is the cutest look: a way to keep warm and add color to any look.

8. Leather

Leather and fall go together like Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield: perfectly. A cozy fall outfit elevated instantly with the addition of a leather jacket thrown over it. A basic outfit elevated and completed instantly with a motorcycle jacket thrown on top of it. Want a pop of color: leather jacket. Need to keep warm without wearing a down jacket: leather coat. Want to make sure summer dresses more fall: leather. I mean I could go on and on, and if you don’t have one yet go thrift one. Note I said thrift, the best way to get that perfect worn in leather jacket look is to thrift one.

9. Lace

OMG best trend to come out of the summer, and into the fall. I say lace to just mean the fabric in general, lace bows, lace scarves, lace socks, lace boleros, LACE EVERYTHING is the cutest thing ever (please go back and count how many times I said cute in this article it’s insane). But lace adds such a great texture dimension to many fall outfits especially since the main textures for fall are cotton or wool.

10. Fuzzy Socks/ Leg Warmers

Adding a fuzzy sock to anything makes an outfit seem more like a fall outfit. Wearing sneakers and wanting to make it look more cozy, add a fuzzy sock. When you're wearing your mini skirt and stockings and need a little something to keep your feet warm in your biker boots or ballet flats a fuzzy leg warmer will go the trick every time.

These are not the end all be all of the fall 2023 trends that will come out but I think these are some of the cutest trends that pair well together. Especially since fall means back to school, getting an outfit formula together to make getting ready for school that much easier will be a game changer!!
