My Personal Lookbook: ‘Night in the Arts’ Inspired Dress

With Fashion Club’s special night tomorrow, it is BC fashionistas’ opportunity to showcase their glamorous black-tie/cocktail attire.

Still confused on what black-tie/cocktail actually means?

Whether you find this lookbook inspirational or tasteless, I see this as an opportunity to share some of my favorite black-tie/cocktail styles.

The Floral Green

The garden green cocktail dress serves to be a fashion statement. Though we’ve moved on from the lush summer green, I am still in-tune with this sophisticated pastel look. When combining the dress with the right accessories – gold earrings and some boho bracelets – we get a beautiful fairy-like look. Overall, the attire creates a cutesy, soft look that can tie into the coquette trend.

The Black Lace

My personal favorite: black lace dresses. The look implements such a classy, yet alluring vibe. With the combination of sleek eyeliner and a messy hair up-do, the lace elevates the simplicity of a black dress. Plus, you can never go wrong with the spaghetti strapped laced design – we see this as an ongoing trend for more casual outfits, as well.

Audrey Hepburn’s Elegance

The icon of cocktail dresses. The 1960s star, Audrey Hepburn, wore all the dresses we’ve dreamed of purchasing. The floral printed, mid-length dress (pictured), the poofy polka dotted dress, and the ICONIC black jewel-collared dress are emblematic to her elegant character. Audrey Hepburn is my fashion inspiration when it comes to perfecting a black-tie occasion.

The Classic White/Cream Attire

What can go wrong with wearing a classic white dress? I’ve been the biggest fan of wearing white attire, but the white must show a hint of extraordinaire. Whether it is the shape or the fabric, the white cocktail dress has to be unique in some way.  Inspired by the asymmetrical length and the off-shoulder look, this may just be my look for the night!

With these notes on cocktail dresses, I have great expectations for the fresh, creative outfits coming through the McMullen door. Ready for the arts to meet the arts!
