Boston-Area Thrift Guide

Hi Shoppers! In the midst of getting ready for finals and break, there is always time to escape and do some shopping! As busy college students, it is nice to look for some deals in the shopping world. This is my list of recommendations of the best thrift stores in Boston and the Chestnut Hill area.

1. Vivant Vintage - Boston

332 Newbury St, Boston, MA

If you love the feeling of stepping into a closet from another era, Vivant Vintage is your spot.

Right on Newbury Street and super easy to get to from the Green Line, this shop is the place for perfectly worn-in vintage denim, classic band tees, and really unique jewelry. It has that cozy, curated vibe that makes you want to look around forever. Whether you're hunting for a cool pair of Levi’s, a funky ring, or just something that feels like it has a lot of history, Vivant never disappoints.

2. Buffalo Exchange - Brookline

312 Harvard St, Brookline, MA

Buffalo Exchange is basically the crossroads where thrift meets trend. Their Brookline location is always stocked with name-brand pieces, on-trend jackets, and fun accessories. It's perfect if you want thrift-store prices withoutdoing too much digging.

I love it because the turnaround is quick, so there’s always something new, and both guys and girls can find amazing pieces. It’s also great for selling your own clothes if you need a little extra cash for a weekend…

3. Savers - Boston

1230 VFW Pkwy, West Roxbury, MA

Savers is for the thrifter who loves the thrill of the hunt. It’s big, it’s affordable, and you will walk out with something you didn’t plan on buying…

This is where you go when you want variety: sweaters, coats, books, home decor, random treasures. You name it, you will find it at savers.

The selection is massive, so give yourself time to browse. I think this spot is a bit more chaotic than the others, but you are always going to find some great pieces.

4. The Garment District - Cambridge

200 Broadway, Cambridge, MA

The Garment District is a Boston-area legend! It is part thrift store, part costume shop, part chaotic wonderland.

The “by the pound” section is fun if you’re not afraid to dig, and the vintage section is full of gems that feel perfectly curated and chaotic at the same time. It’s one of those places where you go in with zero expectations and still come out with something iconic. Go with friends, make it a day, and take cute pics trying on outrageous stuff.

5. Urban Renewals - Roslindale

630 American Legion Hwy, Roslindale, MA

02131

Urban Renewals is one of those true hidden-gem thrift stores that locals gatekeep — but you absolutely need to know about it. Prices are very low, and the racks are packed with everything from basics to statement pieces. People who love real thrifting swear by this store. I looked at some online reviews, and here were a few of the statements, “Literally my favorite thrift store in mass, … GREAT PRICES!!!! I will always be a loyal customer. I found the greatest things ever!” (Isabella Batres) and “This store is incredible, I don't care who you are, they have nice pants and shirts, belts, hats, you name it for a few dollarsa piece, I mean a FEW barely anything, do not miss out.” (A. Venom) Make sure to bring some cash, because they do not accept cards! Both guys and girls can find amazing everyday staples here.

I hope this list has given you some nice ideas and inspiration for your next shopping spree in Boston! Happy shopping!

Xoxo,

Olivia
