My Role As An Assistant Stylist: A Chic Adventure Behind the Runway Ball

The beginning of December found me stepping into the glamorous world of fashion with my role as an assistant stylist at the Runway Ball. This elegant experience expanded my view of the industry and unfolded a unique chapter in my fashion journey.

From September to the Runway

Being offered a role as an assistant stylist was already too good to be true, but witnessing a real fashion show from backstage to the runway was an unforgettable experience. All could not have been possible without the brilliant Wave & Woven Style House and Boston Man Magazine!

Behind the Scenes:

With the hope of glamour also comes commitment and months of planning. From the early days of September, I was involved in preparing for the show, with the theme being “Hollywood at Night.” For each Assistant Stylist, we were assigned a local designer from Boston and began with model search and selection based on our designer’s preferences. We also started understanding the unique styles and number of looks each designer would like to showcase.

In this process, I was assigned to the amazing Zonya Campbell, who creates gorgeous gowns with beautiful styles and silhouettes. Zonya takes pride in creating designs that instill confidence, sophistication, and boldness in women. I was so excited to work with her!

Crafting the Vision:

As the weeks progressed, my communication with Zonya and the style team was an uplifting commitment. We began running logistics for the show, created style and makeup boards for our designers, and assisted in selecting the correct models for the appropriate brand. During this process, I discovered my stylist team's unique visions and formed connections with the models and our respective designers. Connecting with these talented individuals to bring the show to life added a sense of comfort and creativity to the entire experience.

Backstage:

Fast forward to the anticipated day. The Runway Ball—excitement, extravagance, and chaos. Backstage was a realm of models, designers, hair and makeup artists, and stylists working together to ensure the seamless execution of the show. Witnessing this dynamic environment was exhilarating and only affirmed my passion for styling from behind the curtain.

I am so grateful to have experienced this fantastic opportunity surrounded by local talents, exquisite style, and a true Boston fashion community!
