Quarantine Self-Care

When will quarantine end? The question on everyone’s mind these days, right? Though the isolation seems endless and it’s hard to think positively, quarantine is a perfect time to focus on ~self-care~ (especially beauty!). With all this time what’s a girl gonna do? Here are some steps I’ve taken to make my skin, hair, and body healthy!

1. Start a skincare routine and stick to it.

If you don’t already have a skincare routine, now’s the time to start. With so much free time every day, if you make it part of your routine now you’re more likely to stick with it! Every day I make sure to wash my face, apply a serum, and moisturize. I’m also normally too lazy to put lotion on after I shower, but now there’s too much time to make excuses.

Every few days I apply a face mask. I normally like sheet masks but I only have clay masks at the moment. I’ve been using the Laneige Mini Pore Waterclay Mask and the Generation Clay Brightening Purple Clay Mask.  I like them both a lot, but if you have sensitive skin don’t use the purple skin mask because it stings a bit. Sometimes I put on a sleeping mask before bed, which is like a moisturizer, and I always wake up with dewy skin. I’m currently using the Bliss What A Melon Reviving & De-Stressing Overnight Mask. This is one of my favorite ways to keep my skin healthy and it feels nice putting it on before bed!

2. Give your hair a break.

We don’t have anywhere to go, so why use heating tools? If you’re bored and want to play around with new styles go for it, but using heating tools everyday is only damaging your hair. If you do need to use them be sure to apply heat protectant before you blow dry, straighten, or curl your hair. TRESemmé is my favorite brand for heat protectant, but almost any beauty/hair care brand will sell it!

Another great way to take care of your hair is using a hair mask. You can buy one at any drugstore and leave it in your hair for a few extra minutes to give it some extra attention. If you don’t want to buy one you can also find recipes online for homemade hair masks and have a fun DIY to pass the time.

3. Take care of yourself.

When you take care of your physical and mental health, you feel more confident and beautiful (at least I do!).  Be sure to drink lots of water, take vitamins (vitamin C helps your immune system fight viruses), and get lots of sleep. It can be hard not to stay up watching Netflix or Tik Tok, but because there’s nothing else to do it will be right there for your enjoyment the next day.

Since quarantine, I’ve been focusing a lot on eating healthier, drinking more water, improving my sleep schedule, and working out. Though I can’t satisfy my social needs, prioritizing my health and creating a beauty/self care routine makes me feel more productive! There’s no better time than now to focus on yourself so try these steps or create your own. I promise that prioritizing yourself will give you more purpose in this time of uncertainty.
