Beauty Guide: Curtain Bangs

I know you’ve all seen the curtain bang trend that’s sweeping the internet. I absolutely love everything about how they look, but when it comes to hair I’m a creature of habit. My hair appointments consist of the same golden blonde highlights and long layers. But, this trend was all over my Pinterest and I knew I had to try it.

I was extremely nervous to try this out because the idea of chopping the hair closest to my face was terrifying. To avoid a disastrous outcome and a miserable few months waiting for it to grow out, I went into my hair appointment prepared.

First, I scoured the internet looking for pictures of exactly what I wanted.  There are many different ways to get the look, but I wanted my bangs no shorter than my chin with long layers. I love how curtain bangs can be done in a variety of styles—feathered, short, thick—but it’s important to show your hairdresser exactly what you want.

Second, I asked for my hairdresser’s suggestions.  As much as you can know what you want, the professionals can tell you what will look best with your face shape or the overall length of your hair.

Third, before she cut my bangs, she showed me exactly how much hair she was going to cut and let me look in the mirror to check the length.  Make sure that your hairdresser confirms their plan with you before cutting your hair.

After stressing about the process and methodically looking through Pinterest for the perfect inspiration, I can happily say that I love my curtain bangs.  It was a big step for me, but one I would urge you to take if you’re interested in getting curtain bangs!
